The Maryland Speech-Language-Hearing Association is pleased to offer annual scholarships for outstanding full-time graduate students who have completed their first semester of graduate study in speech-language pathology at a university in the state of Maryland. Interested students must have earned a 4.0 grade point average in their first semester of graduate study in order to be eligible to apply.

In addition to academic excellence, applicants should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and dedication to the ideals of the profession. Applicants should also demonstrate leadership and contributions to the field through volunteerism. Applications for the first round of scholarships must be postmarked by January 15, 2010.
Five scholarship recipients will receive a scholarship for $1,000 each. Each recipient will also receive a free MSHA Honorary Membership for one fiscal year, and free registration to the 2010 MSHA convention. Scholarship winners will be honored at the MSHA Convention Awards in March 26, 2010, at 8am. Recipients will be expected to provide 10 hours of volunteer service to the Maryland Speech-Language-Hearing Association, which will be designed and scheduled by mutual agreement of the students and the Association.

Application Process

  • Interested applicants must complete the application packet and submit the complete packet postmarked by January 15, 2010.
  • Each member of the MSHA Scholarship selection committee (five MSHA members from a variety of geographical locations and work settings, except universities) will review all the applications (with all identifying information removed) and submit a prioritized list of nominees to the Chair of the MSHA Scholarship committee.
  • The MSHA Scholarship Chair will tabulate the lists to determine Scholarship recipients.
