Any current member (professional or student) may volunteer to serve on a committee. Many find it a rewarding and educational experience and make valuable connections with other professionals. To volunteer for any committee, please contact the MSHA Office.
The Public Policy Committee monitors legislation throughout the year, working closely with MSHA's lobbyist to formulate an annual legislative action plan, and responding to issues as they arise in the legislative session.
Continuing Education Committee
The Continue Education Director is responsible for completing and submitting all required CEU documentation to ASHA in accordance with their policies, procedures and timelines. THE CEU Director is also responsible for ensuring that MSHA CEU event participants adhere to the ASHA Policies in order to receive CEUs for all MSHA sponsored events.
University Relations Committee
The University Relations Director informs MSHA on trends in pre-service training, university research efforts, concerns of local universities regarding the profession and organizes the MSHA Student Volunteer Program. Student Volunteers assist at large MSHA CEU events and participate in the MSHA Symposium Poster Session.
Multicultural Affairs Committee
The Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC) actively promotes cultural and linguistic awareness as well as culturally competent practice of Maryland communication disorders professionals. Initiatives that are underway include the development of a mentorship program, dissemination of scholarship information, suggestion of continuing education speakers/topics, and review of policies to ensure responsiveness to cultural and linguistic influences.
Pediatric and Adult Committee
The Pediatric and Adult Services Committee is responsible for informing the MSHA Board on issues related to service provision across the lifespan. Specific issues related to service location (e.g., schools, hospitals, private practice, etc) are monitored and reported to the Board for potential action. This committee also suggests speakers for MSHA CEU events, including Clinical Connections, WInter Workshop and Spring Symposium.
