Committees

Join and Learn: Any current member may volunteer to serve on a committee. Many find it a rewarding and educational experience and make valuable connections with other professionals. To volunteer for a committee, please contact the MSHA Office.

Audiology Committee: Would you like to make a difference in support for the audiology profession and the patients we serve in the state of Maryland? Are you interested in becoming more involved in MSHA’s audiology efforts? MSHA is forming an Audiology Committee, and we are seeking members with diverse perspectives and areas of audiology expertise. These are a few examples of MSHA’s current audiology efforts:

  1. Support legislation that improves the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people, such as the recent hearing aid bill (HB 1339/SB 778) that will expand access to hearing devices for adults.
  2. Organize an audiology track for our Clinical Connections and Spring Symposium conferences.
  3. Encourage more students in communication sciences programs to consider audiology careers.

If you are interested in learning more about the MSHA Audiology Committee, please contact Sarah Sparks, AuD, CCC-A, Director of Audiology, at MSHAAudiology@gmail.com.

Continuing Education Committee: The Continue Education Administrator is responsible for completing and submitting all required CEU documentation to ASHA in accordance with their policies, procedures, and timelines. The CEA is also responsible for ensuring that MSHA CEU event participants adhere to the ASHA Policies to receive CEUs for all MSHA sponsored events.

Mentorship Committee: The MSHA Mentorship Committee was established in 2023 and is responsible for leading the MSHA Mentorship Program. Through this program, SLPs and Audiologists have the opportunity to support aspiring clinicians as well as those who are seeking assistance with building skills and career transitions.

MSHA is providing these Anti-Racism Equity and Inclusion Resources from the "Listening Session and Community Forum on Racism". Please feel free to share this list of resources. MSHA Anti-Racism Equity and Inclusion Resources.

Public Policy Committee: The Public Policy Committee monitors legislation throughout the year, working closely with MSHA's lobbyist to formulate an annual legislative action plan, and responding to issues as they arise in the legislative session.

University Relations Committee: The University Relations Director informs MSHA on trends in pre-service training, university research efforts, concerns of local universities regarding the profession and organizes the MSHA Student Volunteer Program.
